7 Secrets your mom never told you about cooking

Don't wash your meat platter unnecessarily

How many times have you placed raw meat on a platter or plate only to transfer it to the grill and you're left with a dirty dish that you can't put cooked meat on? Yeah, it's painful. The simple solution mom never shared: put some plastic wrap down before the raw meat touches the platter. Really, it's that simple. Then you can just dispose of the plastic wrap and you have a clean platter ready to serve the cooked meat on.

So, you go to a social event and you made a nice side salad (like macaroni salad). Well, anything with mayonnaise in it needs to be kept cold so it doesn't spoil. Place your serving bowl in a larger bowl that is filled with ice. That way you can leave the food out without worry and enjoy the event.

Ice takes a bit to make, so instead of using all of your little ice cubes when serving a beverage from a pitcher, be proactive and make larger ones. Clean out old yogurt containers (or something of a similar size) and make large ice cubes in them.

Measuring honey doesn't have to be a sticky nightmare. Just use a bit of cooking spray on the measuring utensil before you fill it with honey. You'll be surprised at how well this works.

Use the radiant heat from the microwave to soften your butter. First, microwave a cup of water for about 2 minutes. Next, remove it and place your butter on a plate inside the microwave. Wait a few mins and you'll be good to go.

Let cookie dough sit for a few hours

You remember making and baking cookies as a child. You'd make the dough then put it on the baking sheet and bake the cookies right then. Your cookies will turn out much better if you let the cookie dough sit in the fridge for several hours before you bake. Just sayin'.

Q. Why can't I see my profile page?

A. You must be logged in to see your profile. You can see if you are logged in or not by going to the home page and looking in the top right corner. If you are logged in then you will see your profile picture. If you are not logged in you will see a button that says "login". Click on that button then enter your email and password.


Q. How do I stop following someone?

A. Just go to that person's profile page and click on the "following" button below their name. It will change to "follow" which means you are not following them at that time. You can also go to your profile page, click on the "following" tab and it will give you a list of the people you are following. On the right side of each name is a "following" button. You can click that button also if you want to unfollow.

My Recipe Magic is your one-stop solution for all things cooking. In the past you had to search multiple sites to find a recipe you like or a "how-to recipe video". Then once you found one how would you keep tack of it? Pinterest is getting less and less user friendly and search engines give you more of what they want instead of what you want. Now you can use the Bookmarklet button from My Recipe Magic to collect every piece of content you want and store it in one, easy to access and organize, location! Here is how:

Once you are logged in click on the menu icon in the top left-hand corner (click here to see training video).

Then click on the "bookmarklet" link on the drop-down menu.

This page will open. Drag and drop the two blue buttons to your bookmark toolbar.

Now you have a "collect" button on your bookmark toolbar.

You can use this button whenever you are online and see a recipe or video that you like. Just click the collect button while you are on the recipe page that you want to keep. A page with several images will open.

Click on the image you would like to use for your recipe thumbnail. A new page will open that shows you what the recipe will look like. You can add text in the different fields. When you have it the way you want it, click on the "send for review" button in the top right corner.

Your recipe will be reviewed and published in 24-48 hours. You can then go back to your profile page and see the recipe under the "recipes" tab.

Collect as many recipes as you can. Then you can start organizing them into collections (click here to see training video). You are on your way to a killer library of favorite recipes!
